Public holidays and long weekends are a treat. Especially when they fall around payday. Win/win! We decided to visit a lovely spot that I heard about called Skinny Legs and All in Loop street, Cape Town for brunch. Brunch is the best meal, I reckon, and places that serve all-day breakfasts should get some sort of award.

We had the stacked French toast with berry compote, sliced banana and a dollop of crème fraîche (R65); the Meditteranean mix (warm quinoa salad of roast aubergine, toasted almonds, avocado and coriander) (R70) and scrambled eggs (R45) for days. To drink we had Americanos, Earl Grey tea and a pear/radish/parsley juice with added ginger. The juice was great, a tad too sweet, but great. The coffee was just right (strong, short, dark) and the Early Grey was wonderfully aromatic. The heroes of the day were the Meditteranean mix and the French toast. The quinoa was seasoned with cinnamon, and that offset the salty aubergine really well. I could have had way more aubergine, though. The French toast wasn’t too ‘eggy’ and the crème fraîche + blueberry combo made it rain!

The food is simple and genuine with good flavours. Friendly and attentive service was really nice to have, sometimes the service in Cape Town leaves something to be desired.

The vibe is trendy, but not overbearing. Expect people to look better than you, but not care that they do. The decor is clean and the walls are adorned with beautiful photographic prints by ‘Republic of Nowhere’, all of which are for sale.

I left full and satisfied. Get yourself some weekend loving!
