Heavy “Irish” bread

Written by , Posted in Mains

Irish Soda bread is not supposed to be as heavy as mine was. I substituted bicarbonate of soda with baking powder, cause I didn’t have any in the cupboard. This stopped it from rising properly and left it a bit heavy and dense.
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
400ml buttermilk
olive oil for brushing
Combine your ingredients to make a dough and knead it for about ten mins. Shape it into a circle, about 20cm wide. Brush with olive oil and bake for 40 minutes.
