Weekend Wanderings // CT // Scheckter’s Raw Gourmet
There are a few places in the city I keep coming back to on a wandering weekend. Scheckter’s is one of those places. If I want a healthy and filling Sunday breakfast with good coffee and great music, I head to Scheckter’s Raw in Seapoint. I have my favourite menu items, which include gluten-free, vegan pumpkin pancakes and the Black magic juice made with activated charcoal as well as their really good coffee (I love that you get loads of crema on their black coffees).
The pumpkin pancakes are made with a mixture of brown rice rice, flax seed and chickpea flour and come with fresh fruit and whipped coconut cream and dairy-free ice-cream (drool), the pancakes are so light and fluffy and the mixture of the strawberries, banana, coconut cream and dairy-free ice-cream that come with them are the perfect complement (R75). I order mine without the agave syrup, I find it makes it too sweet. The portion size looks like it’s on the small side, but these pancakes are SUPER filling (for boys and girls) and I really feel fulfilled afterwards. They are high in protein and can sustain you for a good few hours. In terms of price, Scheckter’s is on par with an average brunch price, and I feel you get good value for it. These pancakes paired with a big black Americano are basically the perfect Sunday meal.
The black magic juice is the freshest thing. It makes my tastebuds zing on every sip and I just love that the activated charcoal helps rid my gut and system of impurities and assist with detoxification. We also tried the ginger ninja : which was delicious but needed way more ginger.
The vibe at Scheckter’s is always so cool, happy music and slow jams. There are unfortunately only two big tables and I find their small tables too small to sit at, especially if you are a couple. The service is always really friendly, but it can sometimes be a bit slow, and the attention to detail gets lost a bit when they get very busy.
The next things I want to try on the menu include the Lucuma Hummus spring wrap and the Quinoa, Hemp seed and Macadamia Cheese Salad … Yes! We will see you soon for those!
Scheckter’s is at 98 Regent Rd, Sea Point, Cape Town.
